BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Santos, São Paulo, Ronaldo Aguiar has always been interested in the arts. As a child, he loved listening to records that his parents would play in the car while they were driving. At the age of 7, upon hearing the solo of the song “Sultans Of Swing”, he decided to start guitar lessons.
At first, music was just a hobby, but at the age of 11 he understood that music was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. It was at that age that he began lessons with guitarist Mauro Hector, being introduced to a completely new universe through Blues and Rock.
At the age of 13 he developed more familiarity with the guitar, as he started attending some Blues jams that took place in the city of Santos. The jams also helped him a lot to have more experience with live music and the improvisation part.
His first band started while he was still at school and allowed him to play in some concert halls in his hometown.
At the age of 18, he began attending the Souza Lima school in São Paulo, where he took classes with musician Edu Ardanuy and was able to play in the Souza Lima Guitar Orchestra. Shortly afterwards, he started playing at night in São Paulo with some bands.
Around 2016, he recorded some of his first original songs, and in this process the EP “Arco-Íris Esfumaçado” emerged, which was recorded with Luca Acquaviva (drums) and Guto Alvim (bass). During that same period, he recorded an EP with the band Bacos, of which he was a member for a few months.
That same year, he met up with some friends from Souza Lima to have a jam session. The jam flowed well and everyone agreed to form a group, which would later be called “Mamamute”, formed by Felipe Muniz (vocals), Ronaldo Aguiar (guitar), Thiago Vilela (drums) and Caio Pamplona (bass). In October, they performed for the first time at a band festival at Manifesto Bar.
In January 2017, the band Mamamute recorded their first single and video clip “Ninguém Quer Saber”, at Alckman Studio in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, and soon after, in partnership with Thommy Tannus, they released the single “O Bicho Vem”. In July, the band performs at Estúdio Showlivre, with live recording, then releasing the song “Saara”, in partnership with Universal Music/Vevo. In December 2017, all members meet in Santa Rita do Sapucaí to finalize the songs for recording their first album.
In January 2018, the band began recording the album “Cinza Concreto” at Mosh studios. The album's proposal was to have the same atmosphere as the live shows, so all the songs were recorded with most of the instruments being played at the same time.
“Quem Dá Mais” was the first single released from the album “Cinza Concreto”, on 04/27/2018. Next came “Tempo Água” (05/04/2018) and “Me Deixa” (05/11/2018).
The album “Cinza Concreto” was released on 05/25/2018, with a launch show held on 05/26/2018 at Teatro Unibes Cultural, in São Paulo.
In the following months, the band continues to focus on shows and releasing some singles. In March 2019, Mamamute participated in the Psicodália festival and a few months later Felipe Muniz left the band.
The position of vocalist is occupied by Biel Astolfi and the band releases some singles that were already scheduled to be recorded before Felipe's departure. During this period, the band recorded a live show and shortly afterwards recorded a live session on the program Sala De Estar.
The band was forced to stop activities in 2020 due to the pandemic that ravaged the world and then, Ronaldo Aguiar decided to leave the project. Throughout the quarantine period, his focus was on producing content and teaching online, in addition to composing.
At the end of 2021, after a long period of hiatus, Ronaldo Aguiar decides to enter the studio to record a new work. Due to so many restrictions, it was decided to produce something simpler to record and capture. During this process, Ronaldo met bassist Alex Dias and, in December 2021, they recorded a live session at Tannus Estúdio, filmed by Fernanda Ciardi. Four original songs and four cover songs were recorded. The videos captured in this live session were released little by little in 2022. In August, the original songs were released in EP format under the name “Tannus Live Session”.
Currently, Ronaldo Aguiar has been giving online classes and playing at night in São Paulo with his solo work or accompanying bands.
